Vivek Sen is a keen learner of climate finance and energy transition, currently serving as the India Director for Climate Policy Initiative (CPI). With 20 years of experience, he has become a pivotal figure in developing innovative finance and policy solutions that support the green growth mandates of the Government of India and the broader South Asian regions.
As the India Director, Vivek leads a multidisciplinary team of over 50 specialists at CPI. He oversees a diverse portfolio dedicated to delivering Technical Assistance and strategic planning for low-carbon transitions. His leadership extends beyond national borders, as he directs high-impact climate finance programs across India, Nepal, and Vietnam, ensuring these initiatives align with both national goals and international best practices. He has been instrumental in the end-to-end design and delivery of several flagship institutional programs, including Just Transitions, Centre for Sustainable Finance, Low Carbon Transition, and project preparation facilities such as India Clean Energy Finance Facility 2.0 and ICEFF-Neo.

He has successfully mobilized over USD 200 million in commercial financing for Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) through innovative de-risking mechanisms and private sector Project Preparation Facilities. Furthermore, he supports the India region of the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance, where he oversees the design and validation of innovative financial instruments with global financial sector stakeholders.
Prior to CPI, he held senior roles across the climate and energy ecosystem, including at Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, ICRA Management Consulting, Power Exchange India Limited, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Vivek combines technical engineering expertise with advanced strategic management training. He has an Executive Certificate in Strategy and Leadership from IIM Indore, an MBA in Power Sector, and holds a graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering.
