Uma Pal is a Senior Analyst at CPI India. Her work focuses on climate and sustainable finance, climate change adaptation, and just transition. With over seven years of experience in the climate and development space, her expertise lies in climate change policy and institutional analysis, physical climate risk assessments and mainstreaming climate risk in plans, policies, and actions of governments and the private sector. Uma has assessed climate risks across sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, and urban planning.

Prior to CPI, Uma Pal worked at the Climate and Resilience Hub, WTW and Legacy Acclimatise, where she advised public and private sector clients on assessing and addressing the climate risks faced by their systems and operations. As part of Oxford Policy Management, Uma provided technical and programmatic support on a 5-year FCDO funded programme in South Asia, Action on Climate Today, which focused on mainstreaming climate change adaptation into plans, policies, budgets and interventions in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan. Uma also has experience in conducting field-based baseline assessments and monitoring and evaluation across sectors such as agriculture, livelihoods and gender.

Uma has worked on projects across various geographies, including South and Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, and the USA, at both national and sub-national levels. She has conducted field research in Bangladesh and India. Uma holds a Master’s degree in Climate Change and Sustainability Studies from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, India, and a Bachelor’s degree in Literature from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University.
