London – Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), with the support of the German Federal Environment Ministry’s (BMU) International Climate Initiative (IKI), is establishing a multi-year platform that brings together stakeholders to take analysis of global climate finance to the next level.

Since 2011, CPI has produced The Global Landscape of Climate Finance series, the most comprehensive inventory of climate change investment available that provides a trend analysis on the how, where, and from whom finance is flowing toward low-carbon and climate-resilient actions globally in order to identify gaps and opportunities to scale up investment. The Global Landscape of Climate Finance has become a mainstay of the global climate finance community, supporting the UNFCCC, IPCC, and G7 processes.

Managed by CPI, the Climate-aligned Finance Tracking Group is a network of experts that aims to achieve greater impact and scale in climate finance by improving and aligning tracking efforts. The Group will provide collaboration among major players in climate finance tracking, looking at specific market segments and themes including banking, capital markets, data, and domestic tracking. Each group will identify specific areas of further research that would support members to further scale climate finance among their peers. It will be governed by a Steering Committee, who will provide strategic direction for CPI’s research and climate finance tracking work.

“Significant challenges remain in making climate finance tracking fit-for-purpose that require a multi-stakeholder approach,” said Dr. Barbara Buchner, CPI’s Executive Director. “The Climate-aligned Finance Tracking Group serves as a platform to connect the dots by mapping main actors’ financing activities to ultimately understand how public finance can best be targeted to make the Paris Agreement an enduring success.”
