Third International Dialogue on Enhancing Ambition (IDEA) through Climate Finance: Session 1 – Interests and concerns of developing countries in mobilizing private and non-sovereign finance to support NDC implementation and ambition

Bringing together key public and private sector stakeholders from developing and developed countries, as well as international financial institutions, this dialogue will address how private investment can complement national efforts to achieve NDCs and enhance global ambition, and how new and existing institutions, including the GCF and its Private Sector Facility, can create incentives for investment that accelerates ambitious climate action, supports the achievement of NDCs, encourages innovation and technology transfer, and contributes to a shift in global financial flows over time.

Private Sector Risk Reduction Mechanisms for Investing in Climate Action

In addition to those products provided by development partners, the private sector offers a number of mechanisms to transfer risks, such as insurance products, fx hedging instruments, and third party guarantees, among others. Private sector representatives would be invited to present approaches and solutions, showcasing examples as to how they have been applied in the real world. This session will include discussion of those risks that are currently too costly for the private sector and yet are not being covered adequately by development finance institutions and identification of alternative potential models for addressing risks across portfolios of projects.
