This three-part webinar series will explore the latest thinking, data, and approaches in tracking climate finance. Drawing on Climate Policy Initiative’s (CPI) latest research, including the Understanding the Quality of Climate Finance scoping study and an upcoming follow-up report to the Global Landscape of Climate Finance 2025 report and methodology, the series will cover quality, trends, and methodologies to provide key insights from this year’s reporting on climate finance flows, as well as the methods behind the data.
The series will begin by examining frameworks for assessing the quality of public climate finance at different conceptual levels, using CPI’s newly published scoping study as a foundation for discussion. The second session will present findings from the follow-up report to Global Landscape of Climate Finance 2025, to be released on 27 October, and providing a comprehensive overview of global climate finance flows. The final session will offer a deep dive into the methodology behind the Global Landscape, giving insights into data sources, classifications, and analytical approaches that underpin the report.
Webinar 1: Understanding Climate Finance Quality
Date / Time: Thursday, September 11th 2025, 10am ET | 3pm BST
Public climate finance providers have long acknowledged the importance of climate finance quality—parallel to the emphasis on quantity. However, to date, a common understanding of what high-quality climate finance looks like, in practice, has not yet emerged across multiple public actors. Shared language and definitions surrounding climate finance quality can break assessments out of institution- (or coalition-) specific siloes, facilitating opportunities to aggregate results across public actors, building out a picture of the quality of global public climate finance as a whole. The impetus to do so is particularly acute at a time when public budgets are becoming increasingly strained, and there is need for a stronger evidence base that can inform the strategic and optimal deployment of climate finance moving forward.
