CPI Website Privacy Notice
As a data controller, Climate Policy Initiative (“CPI”) and its affiliates (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to the protection of your personal data and safeguarding your privacy. This Privacy Notice describes CPI’s policies and procedures on the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information. This Privacy Notice applies to the following websites: climatepolicyinitiative.org, ccfacility.org, citiesclimatefinance.org, climatefinancelab.org, climateshotinvestor.org, greenguaranteegroup.org, indiacleanenergyfinance.org, sustainablebankinghub.org, sustainblefinancecenter.org, and certain other CPI or CPI affiliates’ websites through which we may collect data from you (collectively, the “Sites”). This Privacy Notice incorporates CPI’s Terms of Use; we strongly encourage you to review the Terms of Use as well.
You are advised to consult the “Privacy Policy” or “Privacy Notice” link on any of the Sites each time you visit them. Your continued use of the Sites constitutes your agreement to the Privacy Notice, and that this Privacy Notice may be amended from time to time. If you do not agree to be bound by this Privacy Notice, please do not use or submit any information to any of the Sites or to CPI.
CPI gathers two basic types of information through our Sites: personal data and non-personal data. Personal data is information that identifies you as an individual or is related to you as an identifiable person; non-personal data is aggregated information, and any other information that does not reveal specific identifying information about you.
Collection, Purpose, and Basis for Processing of Personal Data
By use of the Sites, CPI may collect and process the following categories of your personal data:

CPI collects your personal data in a variety of ways. Much of the personal data is provided directly from you. For example, when you register for an event or sign up for a newsletter, you may provide us with your name, title, organization affiliation, and email address. CPI may also collect your name and e-mail address when you contact CPI for general information purposes so we can respond to your request.
Retention of Personal Data
We may retain your personal data for as long as is necessary to fulfill the purposes for which we have collected it, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, regulatory, accounting, reporting, insurance, professional indemnity, internal policy or other requirements.
We may anonymize your personal data (so that it can no longer be associated with you) for research or statistical purposes. In such cases, we may use this information indefinitely without further notice to you.
Cookies and Other Technology
When you visit our Sites, it may store or retrieve information on your browser or device, mostly in the form of cookies, but also in the form of third-party tracking tools. This information might be about you, your use of the Sites, your user preferences or your device, and is mostly used to make the Sites work as you expect them to. The information does not usually directly identify you, but it can give you a more personalized web experience.
If you do not want information collected through the use of cookies, there is a simple procedure in most browsers that allows you to automatically decline cookies, or to be given the choice of declining or accepting the transfer of a particular cookie, or cookies from a particular website, to your computer. However, if you choose to disable any cookies, some features of the Sites may become disabled, and some aspects of the Sites may not function properly, including language translation features.

Disclosure / Transfer
CPI does not sell or rent your personal information under any circumstances. In addition, it is not our policy to share or disclose your personal information without first receiving your express permission, subject to the following exceptions:
- CPI may disclose your personal data to its affiliates and subsidiaries in furtherance of the purpose(s) for which it was collected, including CPI offices or affiliates located in Cape Town, Delhi, Jakarta, London, Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco, Vienna, Washington DC, or other CPI locations.
- CPI may disclose your personal data to third party service providers that help provide services on our behalf (e.g., newsletter distribution service providers, accountants, postal services, counsel).
- CPI may disclose your personal data if required to do so by law or in its good-faith belief that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to respond to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal process.
- CPI may disclose information about its users to law enforcement officers or others to as required by law, respond to claims that any posting or other content violates the rights of third-parties, or to protect the rights, property, or personal safety of, as appropriate, CPI, its users, or the general public.
- CPI may disclose your personal data to Purchasers or successors in the event of a sale, merger, acquisition, or other transfer of all or part of our business. CPI may take your personal data and aggregate it with other users’ information (so that it is anonymous and does not identify you) and present the statistics to potential funders.
Under applicable data protection law, you may have the following rights in relation to your personal data, depending on where you live:
1. Right of access
You have the right to obtain confirmation as to whether we process your personal data and, if so, to request access to that data. You also have the right to receive certain information about our processing activities (much of which is set out in this privacy notice).
2. Right to rectification
You have the right to request that we correct any inaccurate personal data concerning you and to have incomplete personal data completed.
3. Right to erasure
You have the right to request that we delete your personal data in certain circumstances, including where:
- the personal data are no longer necessary for the purposes for which they were collected;
- you withdraw your consent (where processing is based on consent) and there is no other legal ground for processing;
- you object to processing which is based on our on legitimate interests and there are no overriding legitimate grounds for processing;
- the personal data have been unlawfully processed; or
- erasure is required to comply with a legal obligation.
This right is not absolute and only applies in certain circumstances. We may be required or permitted to retain your personal data notwithstanding a request for erasure.
4. Right to restriction of processing
You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances, including where:
- you contest the accuracy of the personal data (for the period necessary to verify accuracy);
- the processing is unlawful but you oppose erasure and request restriction instead;
- we no longer need the personal data but you require it for the establishment, exercise, or defence of legal claims; or
- you have objected to processing based on legitimate interests (pending verification of whether our legitimate grounds override yours).
5. Right to data portability
Where we process your personal data by automated means on the basis of your consent or for the performance of a contract with you, you have the right to receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format and to transmit that data to another controller without hindrance from us. Where technically feasible, you may request that we transmit your personal data directly to another controller.
6. Right to object
You have the right to object at any time to our processing of your personal data on grounds relating to your particular situation where we process your data on the basis of our legitimate interests. We will stop processing your personal data unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing, which override your interests, rights, and freedoms, or the processing is necessary for the establishment, exercise, or defence of legal claims.
You have the right to object at any time to the processing of your personal data for direct marketing purposes, including profiling related to such marketing.
7. Automated decision-making
CPI does not engage in automated decision-making.
8. Right to Withdraw Consent
Where we process your personal data based on your consent, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawal of consent will not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.

Exercise your rights / Right to lodge a complaint
To exercise any of your rights, please contact us using the details in the “Contact Us” section below. We may request specific information from you to help us confirm your identity and ensure your right to access your personal data (or to exercise any of your other rights). This is a security measure to ensure that personal data is not disclosed to any person who has no right to receive it.
You may have the right to lodge a complaint with the relevant supervisory authority in your jurisdiction, if you consider that the processing of your personal data infringes data protection law.
