EKONIKLIM Podcast by CPI Indonesia: Harmonizing Indonesia’s Economy and Environment for a Sustainable Future
EKONIKLIM, a portmanteau of the Indonesian words Ekonomi and Iklim, meaning Economy and Climate, is a podcast by Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) Indonesia that aims to spark public interest in understanding the two-way relationship between the Indonesian economy and environmental considerations. The economic considerations here include development, growth, fiscal, monetary, finance, and real sectors. Meanwhile, the environmental considerations here include climate change, natural resource availability, land use, energy, and waste.
A harmonious relationship between the two has been increasingly recognized as a collective goal of many stakeholders. The podcast has become a place where economic, finance, and environmental experts meet. Further, the content is hoped to be a reference in formulating Indonesia’s technocratic policies.
In Season 1 of the EKONIKLIM Podcast, we discussed the relationship between the economy and a just energy transition in Indonesia. In Season 2, we delve deeper into key instruments such as green bonds, green financing from conventional and Islamic banks, carbon markets, and carbon taxes. We also explore policy reforms, including the repurposing of fossil fuel subsidies, electricity market design, the productive use of energy, and the importance of adaptation in strengthening Indonesia’s economic and social resilience. The latest season also examines the government’s policy direction and vision for advancing Indonesia towards a green economy.
