Growing renewable generation and the closer integration of European power markets create demand for new tools and procedures in system operation. The U.S. experience with nodal pricing offers options for tackling these emerging challenges and facilitates the further integration of intermittent renewable generation technologies.

At a one day roundtable hosted by CPI Berlin, European transmission system operators (TSOs) and international experts explored the technical aspects of implementing and operating a power market design based on nodal pricing and discussed comparisons with current and envisaged approaches in Europe.

Several challenges and opportunities emerged from the discussions. The Workshop Report provides a brief overview of the current concerns and identifies potential gaps that have developed in EU power market design and system operation.
