About the Role
Our Climate Finance Program is seeking talented and qualified individuals with data science skills to support our research teams in developing high-quality and actionable research and policy analysis.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work with a world-recognized team on cutting-edge analytical projects that support policy frameworks and investments to drive the transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient world.
Candidates will be placed within the data science team and work closely with other members of this team to produce robust and reliable climate data, as well as building ML/AI tools to enhance and expand the data available for analysis.
Potential Projects
- Climate Finance Tracking- A program that delivers the most comprehensive data and insights on financial flows supporting climate change mitigation and adaptation. Key components include:
- Global Landscape of Climate Finance – The leading dataset and analysis of global climate finance, widely cited in Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Assessment Reports.

- Net Zero Finance Tracker – A tool that monitors and evaluates the Net Zero commitments of global financial institutions
- The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance- An investor-led, public-private initiative that accelerates innovative well-designed, early-stage climate finance solutions and instruments.
Successfully launched 78 solutions that have mobilized more than USD 4 billion for climate solutions across emerging economies.
Responsibilities
- Support the research team in the efficient collection and analysis of varied and cross-disciplinary data to incorporate into useable and reportable formats.
- Support in the development of robust data pipelines for the ingestion of these data sources
- Develop Machine Learning & AI solutions to extract data from unstructured sources and augment existing data
- Support the development of scripts in Python to query, analyse, and interpret data using statistical techniques
- Support the development of Python web scraping scripts to expand the data sources available for analysis
- Provide input into reports and presentations to disseminate analytical outputs
- Work with CPI’s communications and research teams to develop data visualizations and web interfaces
Technical Qualifications
- Strong Python skills for data processing and analysis (e.g., Jupyter Notebooks, Pandas, NumPy), or proficiency in other languages such as R with a willingness to transition to Python
- Demonstrated experience in data analytics, including development of robust data processing pipelines, web scraping, and applications of machine learning and AI
General Qualifications
- Passion for climate policy/finance and commitment to CPI’s mission.
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in a quantitative field, such as computer science, quantitative finance or economics, physics, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or data science.
- Excellent writing skills in English with the ability to produce and edit high-quality products.
- Ability to present complex data concepts to non-expert colleagues
- Adaptable and professional at all times with an enthusiasm for working as part of a team, and an ability to interact with a diverse array of people including external partners.
Employee Benefits
- Location requirements: Remote, with hybrid opportunities in San Francisco and Washington DC

- Compensation: $23 per hour
- Benefits: Health and Commuter
- Hours per week: Full Time, 40 hours per week across Monday to Friday
- Start date: Mid-September 2025
- Contract duration: 3 months (though we offer some flexibility both in length and start dates).
