CPI is joining the Carbon Markets Africa Summit (CMAS) 2026 as Knowledge Partner, with Africa Director Jonathan First speaking at this landmark convening of Africa’s carbon markets community.
Jonathan will participate in Solution Lab 3: De-Risking Private Capital at Scale, on 15 October, alongside contributors from Howden, MIGA, and Stratera Capital. The session brings together investors, insurers, and market practitioners to identify actionable approaches to de-risk investments and unlock greater private capital in African carbon markets.
The discussion will present two novel financial instruments: a Carbon Repo Facility and a Carbon Bond, each designed to unlock financing for domestic carbon projects in South Africa, with implications for development finance institutions across emerging markets.
During his participation, Jonathan will draw on CPI’s research with the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), the FiCS Innovation Lab Incubator, and Promethium Carbon on a defining challenge for the continent’s voluntary carbon markets: how to make carbon credits bankable and attract private capital at scale.
CMAS 2026 brings together over 500 stakeholders, from governments and project developers to investors and buyers.
