Counting what counts: closing the private nature finance reporting gap
24 October; 11:00–12:00
Location: FfB – FAIRR Pavilion, Blue Zone
As governments and financial institutions work to deliver the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, a major challenge remains: tracking private finance for nature. While public biodiversity finance is relatively well documented, current reporting systems capture only a fraction of private investment, creating a significant data gap that obscures progress toward Target 19. An informal COP17 roundtable hosted by the CBD Secretariat, UNEP FI, UNDP BIOFIN and Climate Policy Initiative will explore practical solutions to close this gap, including a common reporting framework, country validation processes, and agreed methodologies for measuring private finance flows.
IDFC Journey to Finance Nature: Stocktake and Perspectives Towards GBF Alignment
25 October; 18:00–19:15
Location: Finance for Biodiversity Foundation booth, Business and Finance Hub, Level -1, Blue Zone
CPI Manager Costanza Strinati will participate in a session hosted by the International Development Finance Club (IDFC). The session will explore progress made by public development banks in financing nature and biodiversity, as well as opportunities to strengthen alignment with the Global Biodiversity Framework. Costanza will present findings from IDFC’s biodiversity finance stocktake, contributing to discussions on how public development banks can better integrate nature and biodiversity into their investment strategies.
Nature Finance Taxonomy: A Discussion Towards a Common Understanding and Scaling Impact
28 October; 17:00–18:15
Location: Joint Multilateral Development Bank Pavilion
Costanza Strinati will participate in a roundtable discussion on nature finance taxonomies, bringing together multilateral development banks, international financial institutions, and technical experts to explore common principles for scaling nature-positive investment. Costanza will present CPI’s work on developing net-zero, nature-positive guidelines for stakeholders and contribute to a discussion on how nature finance taxonomies can support biodiversity goals, guide investment decisions, and mobilize finance for nature.
