DELHI, 15 November 2018 — Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) is welcoming Mahua Acharya to its leadership team to serve as Senior Advisor and Asia Director. Ms. Acharya will primarily be responsible for high-level strategic planning and further build-up of CPI while also leading CPI in Delhi and Jakarta.

Ms. Acharya brings excellent and longstanding experience in green finance to CPI. Most recently, Ms. Acharya served at the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) as Assistant Director-General and Head of GGGI’s Investment and Policy Solutions Division, where she introduced green finance into the organization’s corporate agenda and established a team that worked across 16 countries. In less than three years, this practice mobilized USD 500M of financing commitments for 10 sustainable investment projects and funds in Asia and Africa. Prior to joining GGGI, Ms. Acharya was Managing Director at C-Quest Capital LLC. She has also held positions at the World Bank as well as in the private sector with ArcelorMittal, London.

Climate Policy Initiative was founded in 2009. Its global programs are well known for their high-impact partnerships with policy and investment leaders to address climate change while driving economic growth. Its Indonesia program has focused on financial aspects of the green economy and has been led by Dr. Suzanty Sitorus since 2015, who recently transitioned from CPI to focus on family matters. The India program, which was led by Dr. Gireesh Shrimali from 2015-2018, is recognized for its work to advance innovative solutions for renewable energy finance. Dr. Gireesh Shrimali recently transitioned to a role as Senior Advisor at CPI, where he will continue to help guide India work and strategy as well as to balance a new role with the Sustainable Finance Initiative at Stanford University.

Ms. Acharya will join the CPI team on a part-time basis in mid-November. She will be based in Delhi.

Climate Policy Initiative works to improve the most important energy and land use policies around the world, with a particular focus on finance. An independent analytical and advisory organization, CPI has offices and programs in Brazil, China, Europe, India, Indonesia, and the United States. CPI also manages the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (the Lab), which identifies, develops, supports innovative climate finance instruments. Since 2014, instruments incubated by the Lab have collectively mobilized over USD 1.4 billion for sustainable development worldwide.
