Matthew is a Senior Program Associate at CPI based in our Cape Town office. Matthew focuses on Africa climate finance landscape work (currently Ethiopia and the Western cape of South Africa), working with the Africa proponents for the Global Innovation lab for Climate Finance as well as new ventures and business development in the African and South African geographies.
Before joining CPI, Matthew was an Engagement Manager at Pegasys and the Nature for Water Facility, working on projects related to fund design/innovative finance and the feasibility/appraisal of grey and green infrastructure projects at various scales. Notably, Matthew was involved in the design of a funding mechanisms for municipal utility reform as part of the UK government’s commitments to South Africa’s Just Energy Transition and in the feasibility and design of water funds in Kenya, Zambia and Malawi. Matthew has worked across several geographies including Africa, the Middle East and recently Asia.
Drawing on an international and interdisciplinary career, he has partnered with governments, global institutions, and private companies to create solutions that support climate resilience and urban sustainability.
Matthew holds a BSc (Hons) in Civil Engineering from the University of Cape Town and an MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge, where he attended as a Chevening-Cambridge Trust Scholar.
