Ben Broché is a manager in Climate Policy Initiative’s San Francisco office, where he leads the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (the Lab). The Lab is a public-private partnership that identifies, develops, and launches innovative financial instruments to drive billions to renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable cities, land-use, and other sectors – and has helped to mobilize more than $2.4 billion in investment toward climate action in developing countries.

Ben manages all aspects of the Lab, including to coordinate a global team of analysts to identify, screen, develop and launch solutions, collaborate with CPI leadership to set and implement the strategic direction for this high-impact program, oversee the Lab’s analytical process and deliverables, and manage engagement with investors, funders, and other stakeholders.

Ben contributes regularly to CPI publications and thought leadership, including blogs, Lab research reports, and webinars, in addition to representing the Lab externally at conferences and events. Recently, he has worked on the development of two energy access focused instruments – the Green Aggregation Tech Enterprise (GATE), and Solar Securitization for Rwanda.

Since 2017, Ben has also managed the Brasil Lab, supervising staff in Rio de Janeiro to adapt the Global Lab’s approach to align public and private actors to drive finance into key sectors to meet Brazil’s nationally determined contribution (NDC) under the Paris agreement.

Before joining CPI in 2015, Ben spent several years at Business for Social Responsibility (BSR), a consultancy and business network focused on sustainability, where he managed global business and multi-stakeholder collaborations focused on corporate sustainability and environmental performance. Prior to that, Ben was with Give2Asia, which advises companies and foundations on their charitable investments in Asia.

Ben holds a M.Sc. in International Development Studies from the University of Bristol.
