Rio de Janeiro, July 22, 2025 – Climate Policy Initiative is pleased to announce that Sergio Gusmão Suchodolski is joining as a new Senior Advisor in Brazil. He will support CPI’s capital mobilization work, especially focusing on advancing solutions that drive climate action and economic development.

Suchodolski brings extensive experience working in finance, government, and innovation, having served as CEO of the development banks of São Paulo (DesenvolveSP) and Minas Gerais (BDMG). He will help expand the reach of initiatives such as the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance, the Catalytic Climate Finance Facility, and other key platforms supported by CPI, including the Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliance (CCFLA)

“Brazil is playing an increasingly important global leadership role in accelerating climate finance and sustainable economic development. Sergio’s international expertise and local perspective help deliver strategic insights that will amplify our work during this critical moment in addressing the climate crisis, especially as Brazil takes center stage on the road to COP30,” said Barbara Buchner, Global Managing Director at CPI.

“I’m excited to join CPI’s team at such a dynamic time for Brazil’s climate agenda. There’s a huge opportunity to connect capital with real solutions on the ground, and I look forward to contributing to CPI’s mission of aligning financial flows with climate goals,” said Suchodolski.

As part of his advisory role, he will represent CPI in key events, dialogues, and collaborations. He’ll also provide strategic guidance to the Brazil-based teams working on innovative finance mechanisms and support outreach to stakeholders across government, finance, and civil society.

“Sergio brings a rare blend of international know-how and deep experience in regional development finance. At a time when Brazil is stepping into a pivotal leadership position on climate finance, his insights will help us bridge global capital flows with locally driven climate action,” said Juliano Assunção, CPI’s Executive Director and leader of its CPI Brazil program.
