5 February 2026 – Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), whose mission is to help governments, businesses, and financial institutions drive economic growth while addressing climate change, is pleased to announce that renowned nonprofit leader Johanna Chao Kreilick has joined its board.

Johanna is currently the Chief Strategy Officer at Blue Ocean Law, a Pacific-led public-interest law firm focused on climate justice, ocean governance, and Indigenous rights, and prior to that served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Union of Concerned Scientists. Over her career, Johanna has held executive leadership roles at foundations, supported global initiatives focused on governance, rights, and climate action, and has led planning, research, and assessment functions supporting global programs, national foundations, and advocacy offices.

“We are excited to add Johanna’s global leadership experience and technical expertise to our Board during this crucial time in climate policy and CPI’s growth,” stated CPI’s Global Managing Director, Barbara Buchner. “Johanna has a proven track record of guiding organizations and ecosystems through transformative change, critical to helping all of us reach the urgent and ambitious goals we have set for ourselves in addressing climate change and scaling sustainable economic development.”

“This is a defining moment for climate policy, as accountability is coming into clearer focus and financial and economic systems must now rise to meet it. CPI’s applied work is critical to helping ensure these systems move together—at the pace and scale the planet and people require.” added Johanna Chao Kreilick.

Johanna has advised and served on multiple nonprofit boards and worked closely throughout her career with philanthropies, research institutions, and networks.

The Board position is effective January 1, 2026.
