Sarath Babu M G is a Manager at the Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), based in New Delhi, where he leads efforts on urban resilience. His work focuses on driving urban green transitions, disaster risk management, and the adoption of green building materials, underpinned by innovative financing solutions to support sustainable urban development.

With over 13 years of experience as an Urban Development Practitioner, Sarath brings deep expertise in climate action planning, governance, and action research. His approach centres on designing actionable and impactful climate strategies, building participatory frameworks, and enhancing techno-institutional capacities across Indian cities. He has led and implemented urban initiatives in more than 23 cities across India.

Prior to CPI, Sarath was with the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), where he supported in flagship national programmes such as the ClimateSmart Cities Assessment Framework (CSCAF), cocreated Climate Data Observatory (CDoT), and the Urban Living Lab. He also provided technical support to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for reporting under the National Mission on Sustainable Habitat (NMSH).

Sarath has collaborated with leading international institutions, including the United Nations University (Germany), GIZ, the European Union, UNESCAP, and the Institute of Development Studies (UK). He has also worked with reputed organisations such as IL&FS Environment, Grant Thornton, NATPAC, and several state governments in India. He holds a Master’s in Urban Planning from the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), New Delhi, and a Master of Science in Geography from the University of Kerala.
