{"id":32379,"date":"2015-09-25T20:43:51","date_gmt":"2015-09-25T20:43:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/?p=32379"},"modified":"2026-04-13T21:31:00","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T21:31:00","slug":"global-renewable-independent-power-supplier-grips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/pt-br\/global-renewable-independent-power-supplier-grips\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Renewable Independent Power Supplier (GRIPS)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2016 Fire Awards Winner<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>In addition to being selected as a 2016 Fire Awards winner, GRIPS was also selected as a shortlisted idea for the 2014-2015 Global Lab cycle.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Champion<\/strong><br>Alexander Voigt, CEO, GRIPS Energy AG<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Context<\/strong><br>A significant portion of the industrial production in Sub-Saharan Africa (and many other emerging and developing countries) is not connected to a stable electricity supply, and many sites are forced to rely on power from expensive, unreliable and emission-intense diesel generators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GRIPS is an initiative to substitute diesel generators for a hybrid system, using at least 50% renewable energy to provide access to clean, affordable, reliable energy where it is not yet available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Barriers Addressed<\/strong><br>\u2022 High upfront investment cost for renewable energy<br>\u2022 High perceived risks of providing funding<br>\u2022 Long amortization periods of renewable energy facilities<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Approach<\/strong><br>Establishment of a private sector entity that develops, builds, and owns a diversified pool of decentralized renewable energy assets aiming to replace industrial diesel generators by providing businesses reliable, affordable, and grid-independent renewable energy at the scale they need, with a sweet spot greater than1-5MW of renewables capacity through tailored PPAs. Risks associated with non-renewal of PPAs, or underperformance, would be spread across the entire asset pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BNEF On-Stage Pitch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
