{"id":72065,"date":"2024-05-15T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-15T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/?page_id=72065"},"modified":"2026-03-05T17:00:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T17:00:09","slug":"africa","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/pt-br\/the-regions\/africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>CPI\u2019s work in Africa and full range of services supports governments, financial institutions, civil society organizations, and the private sector to close the climate finance gap and improve the geographic distribution, private sector participation, and equity investment in climate action and sustainable growth.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CPI developed the first-of-its-kind <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/publication\/landscape-of-climate-finance-in-africa-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Landscape of Climate Finance in Africa<\/a>, a comprehensive assessment of climate finance flows and mobilization in the region, regularly cited by policymakers, advocacy organizations, investors, and the media. Country-level <strong>tracking<\/strong> work includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/publication\/landscape-of-climate-finance-in-burkina-faso\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Burkina Faso<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/publication\/landscape-of-climate-finance-in-ethiopia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ethiopia<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/publication\/climate-finance-in-ghana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ghana<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/publication\/the-landscape-of-climate-finance-in-kenya\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kenya<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Landscape-of-Climate-Finance-in-Nigeria-2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nigeria<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/publication\/the-south-african-climate-finance-landscape-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">South Africa<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CPI was the <strong>implementation <\/strong>partner for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/the-programs\/the-global-ndc-implementation-partners-gniplus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GNI<sup>plus<\/sup><\/a><strong> <\/strong>in Kenya, a four-year program that supported the Kenyan government to achieve its NDCs. We continue to work with the South African government to institutionalize climate finance tracking and assess the interoperability and usability of its green finance taxonomy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other CPI programs and workstreams that support the expansion and <strong>effectiveness <\/strong>of climate investment and sustainable development in Africa include our work in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/the-topics\/adaptation-and-resilience\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Adaptation<\/a>, in Cities via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/the-programs\/cities-climate-finance-leadership-alliance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliance<\/a>, in Food Systems via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/the-topics\/sustainable-agriculture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sustainable Agriculture<\/a>, and in Just Transition through our work supporting efforts to phase out fossil fuels <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/how-to-finance-a-credible-coal-transition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fossil fuel just transition<\/a> efforts such as the South Africa JETP and other carbon transition efforts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CPI is best known for its <strong>innovation <\/strong>and <strong>mobilization <\/strong>of climate finance in Africa through our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/the-programs\/the-global-innovation-lab-for-climate-finance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance<\/a>. The Lab\u2019s Southern Africa workstream launched in 2019 and was expanded to include East African countries in 2023. More recently, CPI has launched the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/the-programs\/catalytic-climate-finance-facility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Catalytic Climate Finance Facility<\/a>, which accelerates the implementation of 8 high-impact, ready-to-scale financial structures targetting African markets, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/climateshot-investor-coalition-clic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ClimateShot Investor Coalition<\/a>, which supports 15 agribusinesses innovating in sustainable solutions for agrifood systems in sub-Saharan Africa..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Africa team is guided by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/people\/jonathan-first\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jonathan First<\/a> and includes local experts as well as support from our
