{"id":1813,"date":"2012-12-04T21:25:54","date_gmt":"2012-12-04T21:25:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/climatepolicyinitiative.org\/?post_type=cpi_publications&#038;p=1813"},"modified":"2026-04-11T10:14:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T10:14:08","slug":"meeting-indias-renewable-energy-targets-the-financing-challenge","status":"publish","type":"cpi_publications","link":"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/pt-br\/publication\/meeting-indias-renewable-energy-targets-the-financing-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Meeting India\u2019s Renewable Energy Targets: The Financing Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>India has&nbsp;ambitious goals for renewable energy.&nbsp;CPI\u2019s analysis shows that while there appears to be a reasonable number&nbsp;of investors willing to invest in both debt and equity in renewable energy&nbsp;projects, the cost and terms of the debt available to finance these projects is&nbsp;a major problem, increasing the cost of renewable energy by up to a third compared&nbsp;to similar projects in the U.S. and Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Further, we find that even&nbsp;if the cost of debt goes down, issues with loan terms, access to low-cost&nbsp;equity, limits on foreign debt, and national banking practices are likely to&nbsp;present additional barriers for growth in India\u2019s renewable energy sector in&nbsp;the medium and long term.
