New Delhi \u2013 Dr. Gireesh Shrimali, Director of Climate Policy Initiative\u2019s India Program, and a Faculty-Fellow at the Steyer-Taylor Center of Energy Policy and Finance at Stanford University, has been designated to advise an Expert Group recently formed under the NITI Aayog and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy that will explore ways to enable growth in grid-connected rooftop solar power systems.<\/p>\n
As a step towards achieving India\u2019s target of 175 GW of renewable energy by 2022, the Expert Group will assess the growth potential and possibilities of grid-connected rooftop solar power systems and various business models which could facilitate that growth. The Expert Group will also recommend an overall enabling policy framework for achieving the target of 175 GW. It will consult the Department of Energy in the resource-rich states of Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra.<\/p>\n
Dr. Shrimali will assist the Expert Group, which is composed of NITI Aayog Energy Adviser Anil Kumar Jain, Ashwin Gambhir from Prayas Energy Group, Anshu Bhardwaj from CSTEP, Deepak Gupta from Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, and NITI Aayog Joint Advisor Rajnath Ram.<\/p>\n
