Spent wisely, international and domestic public resources can drive private investment while reducing the burden on taxpayers, optimizing returns for public and private investors alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many tracking gaps and challenges remain. By continuing to provide clearer, more comprehensive and more comparable data, CPI\u2019s work will continue to help decision-makers optimize the use of their resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">IMPACT<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The data produced by CPI\u2019s tracking work is referenced by donors and policymakers&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/unfccc.int\/cooperation_and_support\/financial_mechanism\/standing_committee\/items\/10028.php\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in the context of the UNFCCC negotiations<\/a>&nbsp;and used in national development plans and strategies drawn up by governments and financial institutions. It forms the solid foundation on which ours and others analysis is built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CPI\u2019s reports were the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/climatepolicyinitiative.org\/publication\/global-landscape-of-climate-finance-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">first to provide a comprehensive picture of all climate finance data<\/a>&nbsp;reported to or by other organizations including the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and Bloomberg New Energy Finance. We highlighted opportunities to improve data collection and harmonize reporting could help build a more robust overview. Sound data enables decision makers to evaluate progress towards their goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The engagement of key stakeholders in compiling these reports, and particularly providers of international public finance, has informed efforts by&nbsp;<a aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adb.org\/documents\/joint-report-mdbs-climate-finance-2015\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">multilateral development banks<\/a>,&nbsp;<a aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.idfc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bilateral financial institutions and national development banks<\/a>&nbsp;to close some of the major gaps we reported in our studies.
