San Francisco, 15 May 2024<\/strong> \u2013 Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) is pleased to announce the opening of its representative office in South Africa, effective 15 May 2024. This will be CPI\u2019s seventh current office location. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

CPI\u2019s work focuses on climate policy and economics in emerging and developing economies, and CPI has been actively involved in Africa-focused research, analysis, and financial instrument development for almost a decade. CPI\u2019s work in Africa supports governments, financial institutions, civil society organizations, and the private sector to close the climate finance gap and improve the distribution, private sector participation, and integrity of investment in climate action and sustainable growth across the continent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Representative Africa-focused CPI work includes the Africa regional program of the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance<\/a>, numerous climate finance tracking analyses including The Landscape of Climate Finance in Africa<\/a>, and implementation efforts such as the Global NDC Implementation Partners<\/a> (GNI+). CPI\u2019s Senior Africa Advisor Jonathan First<\/a> will guide the Cape Town office, supported by Anna Balm<\/a> (who led the GNI+ program in Kenya), Chavi Meattle<\/a> from our London office, and several other Africa-based consultants with whom CPI currently works. As with all CPI offices, our Africa work also draws on the expertise of our 150+ member global team.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCPI\u2019s work in Africa continues to grow in its breadth of subject matter and programs, and effectiveness,\u201d stated Jonathan First. \u201cI am honored to be working with such a high-caliber team\u2014who I have worked with for the past seven years\u2014on projects throughout the continent, supporting climate leaders across our network of public and private organizations.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is a very exciting milestone for CPI given the importance of Africa and the continent\u2019s climate challenges and opportunities,\u201d said CPI\u2019s Global Managing Director, Barbara Buchner<\/a>. \u201cHaving a South Africa office not only reflects our growing body of local work, but will enable us to better connect local and international agendas and help scale finance, an area where CPI excels.\u201d   <\/p>\n\n\n\n
