{"id":35445,"date":"2021-02-17T16:59:33","date_gmt":"2021-02-17T16:59:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/?post_type=cpi_events&#038;p=35445"},"modified":"2021-03-04T15:27:39","modified_gmt":"2021-03-04T15:27:39","slug":"national-development-banks-as-key-enablers-of-cities-climate-finance","status":"publish","type":"cpi_events","link":"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/id\/event\/national-development-banks-as-key-enablers-of-cities-climate-finance\/","title":{"rendered":"National Development Banks as Key Enablers of Cities Climate Finance"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"National Development Banks as Key Enablers of Cities Climate Finance\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5XF5lFP3sjo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In August 2020, the Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliance launched a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/publication\/enhancing-the-role-of-national-development-banks-in-supporting-climate-smart-urban-infrastructure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">policy brief<\/a> which demonstrated that National Development Banks (NDBs) are generally well positioned to support climate-smart urban infrastructure investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To explore this opportunity further, the Alliance has commissioned a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatepolicyinitiative.org\/publication\/leveraging-national-development-banks-to-enhance-financing-for-climate-smart-urban-infrastructure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new product<\/a> to identify the factors that must be in place to enable NDBs to effectively support subnational governments with the development of climate-smart infrastructure and in achieving their climate objectives. This includes an evaluation of the <em>demand <\/em>side of green urban infrastructure financing, including hard and soft barriers for cities to access finance from NDBs, and the <em>supply<\/em> side barriers and opportunities that NDBs face in financing green urban infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on first-hand interviews with NDBs and cities, the result is a conceptual model of 12 maturity dimensions along four parameters \u2013 strategic, financial, business, and operational.
