Action is urgently needed. AIIB\u2019s recent&nbsp;<em>Where the Water Flows<\/em>&nbsp;report offers clear pathways for addressing these challenges in an increasingly destabilized hydrological environment.&nbsp;Yet,&nbsp;financing&nbsp;remains&nbsp;insufficient: an&nbsp;additional&nbsp;USD 140.8&nbsp;billion in&nbsp;investment is needed annually to meet SDG targets 6.1 and 6.2 by 2030 (World Bank, 2024).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditional water funding modalities&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;tariffs, taxes, and transfers \u2013 are under strain, jeopardizing sustained investment and potentially widening the funding gap. Innovative governance models and financing solutions have a critical role to play in this evolving landscape. The conversation will also reintroduce the <a href=\"https:\/\/greenguaranteedirectory.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GGG Guarantee Directory<\/a> and emphasize the importance of coordination across stakeholders to scale guarantee instruments, unlock private investment, and strengthen country-driven approaches to sustainable finance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Accelerating Systems Support for Public Development Bank Innovation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udcc5&nbsp;Thursday, April 16; 9:00 &#8211; 11:30am<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Public development banks (PDBs)&nbsp;are&nbsp;key players&nbsp;to&nbsp;drive&nbsp;climate&nbsp;finance at scale,&nbsp;with&nbsp;over 540 PDBs worldwide holding 18.7 trillion USD in assets,&nbsp;delivering approximately 10% of annual global&nbsp;investment.&nbsp;&nbsp;PDBs, particularly national and sub-national development banks,&nbsp;are uniquely positioned to support their governments\u2019 climate and development priorities and deliver on the scale and quality of climate finance\u202frequired\u202fto reach Paris&nbsp;Agreement&nbsp;goals.\u200b&nbsp;\u200bSince&nbsp;the signing of the Paris Agreement, PDBs have been increasing their&nbsp;focus&nbsp;on&nbsp;climate&nbsp;change.&nbsp;Sixty percent&nbsp;of&nbsp;PDBs had&nbsp;institutional climate&nbsp;commitments&nbsp;in 2024, up from just 5.9%&nbsp;in 2016.&nbsp;In 2023, PDBs provided over 400 billion USD in climate investment.&nbsp;There is strong demand from PDBs to build out their&nbsp;climate&nbsp;finance&nbsp;strategies&nbsp;and&nbsp;products.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This high-level&nbsp;roundtable&nbsp;convened&nbsp;by&nbsp;IDB, CPI,&nbsp;and&nbsp;FiCS&nbsp;will shed light on the&nbsp;ambitious&nbsp;and&nbsp;innovative&nbsp;approaches&nbsp;PDBs are pursuing&nbsp;to&nbsp;deliver&nbsp;climate finance&nbsp;and barriers they&nbsp;face, and&nbsp;highlight&nbsp;how&nbsp;to connect these efforts with&nbsp;international sources of climate finance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Integrating Localization into Blended Climate Investments<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udcc5&nbsp;Thursday, April 16; 1:00 &#8211; 2:30pm <strong><br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccfacility.org\/\">Catalytic Climate Finance Facility<\/a> (CC Facility) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccfacility.org\/learning-hub\">Learning Hub<\/a> will host an invite-only roundtable discussion on designing and implementing localization strategies for blended climate finance structures.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The session will highlight the CC Facility\u2019s experience in advancing its own localization approach, alongside insights and lessons learned from its grantees.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Localization strategies in climate finance (those that integrate local expertise, partnerships, and investment) are increasingly vital for achieving effective and sustainable outcomes. Locally anchored initiatives tend to perform better, as local actors and investors bring deeper knowledge of regulatory environments, market dynamics, and sector-specific risks, enabling more relevant and implementable project design. This improves project viability and the ability to mobilize domestic and regional capital.
